Penicilin.The first antibiotic was discovered on accident in a lab in 1928.
Alexander Fleming was looking through glass plates coated with staphylococcus bacteria as part of a research project. Fleming noticed one of the plates had mould on it. Spores of Penicillium Notatum had landed on the plate. He noticed that there was a ring around the mold where there were no bacteria and concluded that the mold was producing a substance that was killing the bacteria. |
